United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is devoted to protecting refugees, internally displaced communities, and stateless people worldwide through assisting their repatriation and resettlement to new countries. With the current global conflicts, there has been an increase in the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes, and as a result, the organization has been brought to the spotlight and scrutinized for its ability to coordinate international action.

Stephanie Hai

Director — unhcr@vymun.com

A junior at West Point Grey Academy, Stephanie is beyond thrilled to be directing the United Nations High Court for Refugees at VYMUN 2020! She remembers her first conference being driven by peer-pressure, however, she soon developed a true passion for fast-paced discussion and international affairs. What was going to seem like a slow, unconventional weekend spent debating, turned out to be one of her major highlights of the year. Since then, she has forged countless friendships with passionate individuals like herself, at international conferences from Tokyo to Montreal. Aside from MUN, Stephanie can be found eating tiramisu at Kits beach, taking disposables of her friends, and struggling in basic multiplication. She hopes for a positive weekend for all delegates alike, and encourages everyone to step outside their comfort zone! Please don't hesitate to reach out to her for any questions, she is eager to meet all of you in October.

Cole Swetlishoff

Having attended VYMUN since grade 8, Cole is excited to take on a new challenge as chair. From his first conference, Cole has enjoyed the quick thinking and always cooperation required of Model UN. When not MUNing Cole likes to mountain bike, play soccer, and hang out with friends. Cole is excited to meet all of you and wishes you a fun VYMUN weekend.
