United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is devoted to protecting refugees, internally displaced communities, and stateless people worldwide through assisting their repatriation and resettlement to new countries. With the current global conflicts, there has been an increase in the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes, and as a result, the organization has been brought to the spotlight and scrutinized for its ability to coordinate international action.
UNHCR is designed for beginner delegates. Though position papers are not required, they are recommended to ensure delegates feel prepared and comfortable throughout the conference. Please submit all papers to your committee director.

Currently a sophomore at St. Georges, John is delighted to serve as the UNHCR’s assistant director in VYMUN 2021. His MUN journey started in 2018 when he reluctantly joined his first MUN conference. Since then, John has been captivated and motivated by the passionate debate in every conference he has attended. He is indebted to the countless friendships and experiences MUN has cultivated and hopes to offer the same to new delegates. Outside of MUN, John can be found trying (and failing) to learn La Campanella on the piano, slaving over Latin translations and playing golf with his friends. John is excited to see what VYMUN 2021 has to offer and wishes the best of luck to all delegates.
